Object data of B168

Object type: dark nebula (D=5)
Size: 100'
Magnitude:
Constellation: Cyg
Distance: 4000 Lj

Notes: B168 is the dark nebula complex, connected with the Cocoon nebula IC5146. The above image shows the densest parts of B168 westwards of IC5146. Two dark lanes are visible, which are known under the names "Northern Streamer" (LDN1035, LDN1040, LDN1042 and LDN1045) and "Southern Streamer" (LDN1020, LDN1030 and LDN1031).

The object identification shows the faint red star V1735 Cyg inside the dark nebula. V1735 Cyg = Elias1-12 is a FU Orionis variable. FU Orionis variables are very young stars, which are surrounded by an accretion disk and which drive molecular outflows. Because FU Orionis varibles are very rare, V1735 Cyg is of a high interest for the research.
