Object type: | Open star cluster (I 1 p) | |
Size: | 2' | |
Magnitude: | - | |
Constellation: | Cyg | |
Distance: | 18,000 Ly | |
Notes: |
Berkeley 51 is a very young open star cluster located approximately 18,000
light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. This cluster is heavily
obscured by the dust of the Milky Way which causes the stars to be strongly
reddened: E(B-V) = 1.8mag. The field around Berkeley 51 is rich in red emission nebula, and also a small planetary nebula (PN K 3-57) can be found (see object identification image). |
