Object data of CG1

Object type: Cometary globule
Size: 28' x 7'
Magnitude: -
Constellation: Pup
Distance: 1,300 Ly

Notes: CG 1 is a cometary globule in constellation Puppis. Cometary globules are typically characterized by dusty heads and elongated tails. These features cause cometary globules to have visual similarities to comets, but in reality they are very much different. Globules are frequently the birthplaces of stars, and many show very young stars in their heads.

CG 1 is one of the largest of the Gum Nebula CGs.
