Object data of NGC2444 / NGC2445

Object type: Galaxy (S0) / Galaxy (Irr)
Size: 1.2' x 0.8' / 1.4' x 1.1'
Magnitude: 13.9 mag / 13.9 mag
Constellation: Lyn
Distance: 185 Mio Ly

Notes: The interacting galaxy pair NGC 2444 / NGC 2445 in the constellation Lynx is listed in Arp's Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies as number 143. NGC 2445 was referred to as "the blue nest" by Vorontsov-Velaminov (1959). It has a highly disturbed aspect with many optical knots surrounding the nucleus. The knots are very blue and associated with HII regions and are probably young star clusters.

Three distant galaxy clusters are visible in the image:

  • GxCl 01 (z=0.481): GMBCG J116.86440+38.87871
  • GxCl 02 (z=0.164): WHL J074731.6+391111
  • GxCl 03 (z=0.351): WHL J074538.4+384647
